Ditch Diet Culture & Gain Wellness

I am a recovering chronic dieter and disordered eater.

My own journey to actual wellness and Intuitive Eating began when I realized that I was a chronic dieter with a LOT of disordered eating behaviors. I had allowed intermittent fasting, carb cycling and macro tracking via MyFitnessPal to overtake my life. Like most diets, it worked at first. But also like most diets, it stopped working. And that turned into me feeling like a failure.

As a Certified Health Coach specializing in behavioral change, I knew that my emotions weren’t my fault. But that knowledge didn’t stop me from having the guilt and shame associated with my “failure” to stay on plan.

Then I finally woke up and realized it was the fault of diet culture.

A combination of events led me to recognize that I had to recover and heal from my own disordered eating. For awhile I worked on myself while continuing to coach FASTer Way to Fat Loss. I felt like such a walking contradiction though. And I knew I couldn’t promote that program without compromising my integrity and new beliefs. Plus, my own recovery required me to ditch diet culture. And I couldn’t do that if I stayed involved and promoted diet culture.

So I basically burned down my business.

When you know better, you do better.

In February 2020, I re-named my company from Below the Fork to Love Yourself Towards Healthy. It had been my “tagline” since 2013, but I wanted it to be at the forefront of everything I do. I dissolved my coaching contract with FASTer Way. And I began to only accept 1:1 clients that were ready to ditch diet culture and work towards Intuitive Eating. Then I launched Gain Wellness, a 5-week group session for those who want guidance ditching diet culture. In March 2021, I launched my 12-week intuitive eating group program, Diet-Free Academy.

Since converting over my business to specifically help chronic dieters heal their relationship with food, fitness and body image, I have never felt so passionate and aligned with my purpose. It is such an honor to help women unlearn diet culture so they can tap into their own intuition.
