3 Truths That Freed Me from Dieting

I knew dieting was hurting my health. But I didn’t know what else to do. I just remember feeling so stuck. Part of me was ready to walk away from the significant amount of effort and brain space it took to micromanage my food and sustain my fat loss. While the other side of me was scared of losing control and gaining weight.

But then I realized these 3 truths that freed me from dieting for good.

1. I was out of control while dieting.

As a Type-A personality, dieting always made me feel like I was in control. But then I realized, I wasn’t in control at all. I was allowing external factors like MyFitnessPal, diet rules, body goals and food to control me.

I let my intermittent fasting “eating window” determine when I ate.

I let whatever diet/lifestyle plan I was following to determine what I ate.

I let MyFitnessPal determine if I could eat more.

I had no control at all! Food was completely in control of me. I didn’t experience actual food freedom until I learned this truth. And finally freed myself from diet culture.

2. God gave me intuition.

Pursuing thinness to meet society’s standard of beauty isn’t what God wants from me. I was basically telling Him the body He gave me wasn’t good enough. He meant me to be so much more than a body on a diet.

Now I can’t imagine “intuition” any other way than as an extension of the Holy Spirit. Dieting is a very worldly approach to health and it does not serve me; nor glorify the amazing body God gave me.

3. I need to feel my best to give my best.

My value and worth comes from who I am as a human. I need actual good health and balanced wellness to be the best version of me.

Dieting was destroying my mental health, emotional health, social health, and yes, my physical health. My priority on micromanaging my food came at the cost of my wellness.

Now it’s time for you to get out of the rut, friend, and I wrote Gain Wellness specifically to help you do it.
