Christ-Centered Weight Loss Diets Dim Your God-Given Intuition

Intentional weight loss is a worldly view. And Christ-centered weight loss diets are no different in causing you to replace your God-given intuition with the worldly voices of diet culture.

Trusting diet culture over the Holy Spirit.

God gave us amazing bodies with the built-in intuition to honor its needs so we can thrive. But we instead take that God-given gift of intuition and let the voices of diet culture dim our light. We stop trusting the Holy Spirit and instead listen to a society that says we’re not good enough unless we’re thin and toned. That we’re lazy unless we’re actively trying to lose weight. That we’re unworthy if we don’t fit certain beauty standards.

I flat out reject diet culture. And I get even angrier at the shady marketing practices of lifestyle programs that convince people they’re not on a diet (when they’re totally on a diet.) But another VERY dangerous game that is played is diet/lifestyle programs that turn red letters into another worldly voice in diet culture.

Twisting scripture to promote dieting.

Christ-centered weight loss programs take the same diet/lifestyle rules around food but add a morning devotional. They twist scripture that references the body figuratively and apply it literally. They say God wants us to be more than bodies in one breath, and then offer a 30-day “shred” plan in the next. They call their pro-diet communities ‘fellowship.’ They make scripture part of the to-do list for a healthy day along with food tracking, prescribed exercise and clean foods. They ignore how food restrictions backfire and say to pour grace over the shame of failure. 💔

The actual TRUTH about your body:

  • God loves you and meets you where ever you are. However you look. Whatever you weigh.
  • He made YOU unique on PURPOSE. With purpose.
  • You are loved. You are worthy.
  • God gave you intuition for a reason. Don’t ignore it for worldly voices.
  • God provides both food from the ground and food from factories. He does not place a moral value on one kind of food over the other.

Imagine how much more you would glorify Him if you focused on growing your character instead of shrinking your waist. Imagine if you chose to honor your God-given intuition with Intuitive Eating?
