Stop dieting to become an intuitive eater can be scary

Why It’s Scary to Become an Intuitive Eater

It’s scary to leave the routine of tracking your food and become an intuitive eater who trusts your own body. To let yourself determine when, what, and how much you eat. It takes courage to stop following the rules and limitations around food. It’s hard to tune out the lure of diet culture promising you weight loss.

You’re afraid you’ll be “letting yourself go” if you delete MyFitnessPal from your phone and cancel your monthly auto-subscription to your lifestyle program. And honestly, those rules have to work (right? right?!) because they were created by someone else who has the body and easy-looking lifestyle you want. Plus it seems like everyone else who promotes that same program easily follows the rules and gets a perfect body too (so like, isn’t it my fault that I lack the willpower to stay consistent?!)

Intuitive Eaters seem healthy & confident though.

At the same time, you recently started paying attention to some intuitive eaters on social media. They seem to be truly free and self-confident. It’s making you realize you’re sick of stressing over calories, portion-sizes, and staying “on track.”

You feel high-maintenance for not eating what your family eats. For saying “no” to every meal and restaurant your husband suggests. You wonder how you went from being super spontaneous to missing out because you’re worried about losing your progress. You would love to wake up on a random Tuesday and just eat what sounds good; not second-guess what fits your macros.

But ultimately, 4 major fears about intuitive eating hold you back from taking full control of your health.

If you try to become an intuitive eater, you’re scared…

  • You won’t stop eating.
  • You’ll only eat junk.
  • You can’t trust yourself.
  • You’ll gain weight.

And you might be shocked that I’m going to say this but…your fears are valid. Not only are these the most common fears I hear from potential clients, but they were also my own fears. Full-transparency? My #1 fear was that I would gain weight.

Here’s the good news though. These fears can be overcome! I promise you. Everyone has had 1, if not all 4, of these fears before they did the work to become an intuitive eater.
