Turkey Tacos

I can’t remember the last time I used ground beef for tacos. We converted to ground turkey years ago, and haven’t looked back since.

Not only is turkey healthier, but it’s more flavorful. We also use our own taco seasoning mix as often as possible. Most pre-made mixes have questionable ingredients and unnecessary preservatives that aren’t good for you. In a pinch, the only clean mix I’ve been able to find is from Trader Joe’s—it’s pretty spicy though!

Prep Time: 10 minutes |Total Time: 25 minutes

  • 1-2 lb lean ground turkey
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 T chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 tsp oregano
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 8 oz can tomato sauce or 2T tomato paste and 4T water
  • Organic corn taco shells
  • Optional toppings: plain Greek yogurt, avocado, shredded cheddar, shredded lettuce

  1. Heat skillet over medium heat
  2. Add ground turkey and cook thoroughly
  3. Stir in spices and tomato sauce
  4. Simmer on medium low for 8-10 minutes
  5. Heat up corn taco shells in oven according to package directions
  6. Spoon in meat mixture to shells and add desired toppings
  7. Enjoy!

More often than not, I forgo the shells and just eat the taco meat mixture on top of greens. Delicious either way! Plus I usually make extra meat to use throughout the week in omelets, breakfast burritos, and taco salads. Yum!
